Dr Aniruddha Mitra MBBS, FRCSI, FRCS (Tr & Orth), MMedSc, FRACS (Ortho), FAOrthA

Mr Mitra is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and a specialist in lower limb and shoulder surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as well as the Royal College of surgeons in Ireland.He undertook specialist Orthopaedic training and Masters degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine in Ireland. He travelled to Adelaide 2012 to embark on advanced clinical fellowship training in Orthopaedic trauma surgery (including pelvic and acetabular reconstruction and hand trauma) and primary and revision arthroplasty (joint replacement) and arthroscopy (key hole surgery).

His primary objective is to achieve the best possible outcomes for all his patients. He follows evidence based techniques and practice to accomplish this.

Keeping up to date with the latest technical advancement and evolvement in Orthopaedic surgery is an integral part of Mr Mitra's practice. He regularly participates in regional, national and international conferences and has presented at numerous international conferences and published in peer reviewed journals.

Mr Mitra has travelled extensively around Europe and had obtained wide-ranging experience in treating hip, knee and shoulder arthritis including primary and revision joint replacement surgery, treatment of complex fractures of upper limb, pelvis, lower limb and sports injuries from centres of excellence in France and Germany.

He has keen interest in teaching medical students and junior orthopaedic trainees. He has been a lecturer with University College Cork in Ireland and the University of Adelaide in South Australia. He was awarded the Allan Kerr Award for the best clinical tutor at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide in 2015.

Mr Mitra is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is a senior clinical lecturer with Deakin University Medical School.

He has keen interest in reducing hospital acquired infections and antibiotic misuse. He is a member of the antibiotic stewardship committee at Southwest Healthcare.

Mr Mitra consults at Warrnambool Orthopaedics and Portland Specialist clinic. He operates at Southwest Healthcare, Warrnambool; St John of God Hospital, Warrnambool and at Portland District Health.
